Summary of eligibility criteria and application process

 

Available for undergraduates who currently pursue their higher studies at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

 

Japura Alumni Australia Inc. (JAAI)

 

JAAI is an association incorporated in Australia and assisting undergraduates of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura is a primary objective of the association.

 

JAAI Scholarships of Japura Scholarship Fund (JSF)

 

The Japura Scholarship Fund (JSF) was established in 2010 with the aim of providing financial assistance to full time undergraduates of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Scholarships are awarded on financial needs, academic success, and future plans of the applicants.. These awards are open to undergraduates of all faculties of the university.

 

Each scholarship is valid only for one academic year (March to December). The recipients of previous years are eligible to reapply if they continue to be undergraduates of the university. Selected undergraduates will receive monthly payment of approximately Rs 2,500 over a period of 10 months.

 

*Important - To be eligible for 2015 scholarships, students need to reapply for 2015 programme even if they are currently getting payments under 2014 programme.

Eligibility Criteria to apply for scholarships

To be eligible to be considered for a scholarship, applicants must meet following minimum requirements.

  •  Need to be registered and enrolled as an undergraduate with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka as of 1 December 2014.
  •  Need to be a full time student of the university.  A letter of recommendation from the head of his / her department needs to be submitted along with the application.
  •  Should be able to prove that she/he has achieved excellent academic results. Copies of university result sheets need to be submitted.
  •  Should be able to demonstrate she/he needs financial assistance to continue studies. A letter from the University welfare department is the preferred document for this purpose. As an alternative we consider a letter from Grama Sevaka, a Priest or a JAAI Member confirming this factor.
  •   Need to submit a personal statement stating why she/he deserves to receive a scholarship. This statement must be limited to 500 words. This statement can be written in Sinhalese and sent as a scanned copy.
  • Should lodge an online application through JAAI website www.japuraalumni.com on or before 6pm on 31 January 2015.

 

Selection of scholarship recipients

Selection of scholarship recipients is competitive and is conducted annually by the JAAI’s Scholarship Committee according to a set of strict internal guidelines.

Selection of scholarship recipients will be based on 3 Criteria.

 - Academic Excellence (Weight 40%)

 - Applicant’s personnel statement – (Weight 40%)

 - Income/Financial considerations – (Weight 20% )

JAAI reserves the right to independently verify the information provided in the applications. Applications may be disregarded; offers of an award revoked or an award terminated if the Japura Alumni Australia Inc has substantial evidence to ascertain false or misleading information has been given in an application.

Application forms

Applicants need to download applications from the Japura alumni website www.japuraalumni.com and complete and submit them online. All supporting documents must be attached along with the online application.

Publication of the decision

The decision of the award of the scholarships will be notified to the applicant and published on JAAI website  2013.

Payments for award recipients

Monthly disbursement of scholarship payments  will commence on 1 March 2014 for a period of 10 months and end on 1 December 2014. The each scholarship recipient will receive approximately Rs 2,500 per month.

JAAI’s Japura Scholarship Committee will review applications to ensure applications meet Scholarship Award eligibility requirements.

JAAI’s Japura Scholarship Committee  will award marks for each applicant based on the eligibility requirements

 

$2,500 donors will select scholarship recipients from the above list
JAAI’s Japura Scholarship Committee will select the applicants who obtain highest marks.
